Good news about good people.

From Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems

Morning Brew is one of my daily go-to blogs for a smile and a giggle to offset a look at the markets. Today they posted the following collection of good things people around the nation are doing to help those needing it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hope it brings you a little cheer:

OPTIMISM
People Are Good Pt. 3,143

All week, Brew readers have been writing in with inspiring stories of people working together to help those affected by the pandemic. We compiled this list to a) make you smile and b) give you ideas about ways to mobilize your own community.
Stephanie: “To keep a local florist afloat, members of my community are sending each other bouquets. Once you have a bouquet sent to you, you send a bouquet to another friend, and then they send a bouquet to someone else, and on and on.”
Riley in NYC: “Sauce Pizzeria is delivering free pizzas ...

An economic stimulus worth considering.

By Vanessa Saunders Founder/CEO Global Property Systems (GPS)

Laura Castelli, Italy’s deputy economy minister, told an Italian radio station Tuesday that individuals and households will temporarily not be required to make mortgage payments, according to BBC. During the global economic crisis in 2010, the country also temporarily halted some loan payments.

Consider how this would benefit our slumping economy. A temporary moratorium on mortgages and rents for homeowners and renters would instantly put cash in the hands of most Americans without the government cutting a single check or mailing out one letter. Americans would have the cash to get our economy up and running as soon as the Coronavirus pandemic abates.

There’s actually a precedent in the U.S. for Italy’s forbearance program, but here, it’s been more focused on victims of natural disasters like hurricanes and flooding.

So far, the president’s plans for economic stimulat ...

Coping with the Corona Crash.

By Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused massive global uncertainty, including what we call the Corona Crash, (not to be confused with a Cinco de Mayo hangover) the global stock market correction no one could have seen coming. While much of the news has been about the effect on various markets, let’s also acknowledge the true impact it continues to have on lives and families in the Hudson Valley and around the world.
With all this uncertainty, how do you make powerful and confident decisions in regard to your real estate plans?
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) anticipates:
“At the very least, the coronavirus could cause some people to put home sales on hold.”
While this is an understandable approach, it is important to balance that with how it may end up costing you in the long run. If you’re considering buying or selling a home, it is key to educate yourself so that you c ...

Market history says don't worry.

By Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems

Allow me to preface this article with the following statement which is required of all securities firms to have on their advertising:

"Past performance is no guarantee of future results."

That being said, a look at the way the markets typically rebound after a major health scare offers a pretty rosy future for securities over the next six or twelve months. Wall Street's reaction to pandemics and fast-moving diseases is often short-lived.

Dow Jones Market Data shows that the S&P 500 posted a gain of 14.59% after the first occurrence of SARS back in 2002-03, based on the end of month performance for the index in April, 2003. About 12 months after that point, the broad-market benchmark was up 20.76%. Likewise, the S&P 500 rose 11.66% in approximately six months following reports of the Avian flu in 2006.

The data for global stocks shows a similar resilience. The MSCI All Countries World Index w ...

So, how was your decade?

2019 ends in a few short days, not only the end of the year but the end of the decade. It's a good time to look back and see how much better off we are now than we were when the decade started. Unfortunately for most Americans, the answer is going to be "not so great."

At the start of the decade, the U.S. economy was still in the throes of the Great Recession. 10 years and one hefty economic turnaround later, many Americans still feel like they're coming up short.

According to a recent study by the Brookings Institution, only the top 20% of Americans have recovered to pre-recession levels. That's despite the longest economic expansion in history propelling corporate earnings, stocks, and once-troubled sectors.

The state of wealth in America today
Home ownership and stock investments are down for middle-class Americans, which means home equity and capital gains have mostly benefited already wealthier families.

As of this summer, U.S. household wealth ...
