Taking a day trip to Upstate New York is kind of like spending an afternoon in your grandmother's attic. At some point you realize you'd completely forgotten about all the cool stuff that was up there.
We have had a lot of clients recently who completely agree, who have either purchased vacation homes there, or made the decision to move upstate permanently in spite of the commute. One family converted an old farmhouse into a fantastic artist's weekend retreat in Barryville, with incredible mountainside views of the Delaware River and river valley. Another artistic couple re-built a crumbling railway station in Barryville into a fantastic Mediterranean-style home, and took up full-time residence there. (Both properties are currently available, by the way. To search for available homes anywhere in the Hudson Valley, click here.)
Upstate New York is the perfect place to take a day or weekend trip. Interesting, fun, beautiful stuff is just a brief ride from New York City. In the su ...

We love it when one of our listings gets the recognition it deserves in the real estate media. TopTenRealEstateDeals.com just featured our listing at 20 Harvest Road in Bloomingburg, NY, with a lovely article about the property, which started as an abandoned railroad station. A husband-and-wife team (he an architect and she an interior designer) expanded and modernized the station to become a fabulously fun, quirky and beautifully restored 5 bedroom home. Read about it and see photos of the spectacular interior here, or contact Global Property Systems for a viewing.

Our listing in Bloomingburg at 20 Harvest Road has been featured in Curbed, the NYC-based online real estate magazine.
Curbed editor Liz Stinson said, "We’ll take one ticket to this amazing railroad-station-meets-house in Bloomingburg, New York. Terrible puns aside, this five-bedroom beauty is on the market, and it’s a stunning example of how a little creativity can turn an dilapidated building into a home."

After the Ontario and Western railway station at Bloomingburg, NY was shut down, it sat abandoned for over 40 years. It took another 15 to to turn the vandalized brick hulk into a unique, one-of- a-kind, distinctive 5-bedroom home. The owners restored the property with an eye toward opulent detail, but didn't forget about it's history. That's what makes 20 Harvest Road in Bloomingburg so fascinating.
The O&W Railroad grew from the bankruptcy of the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad, running from Oswego on Lake Ontario southeast to the New Jersey border at Unionville. The line prospered for many years, carrying tourists to the Catskills, convicts to the new prisons in upstate New York and milk and dairy products and, most importantly, anthracite coal from the northern Wyoming Valley coal field in northeastern Pennsylvania.
So much of this home's storied past is reflected in the details that can be found throughout, much of which came from debris and discarded items dics; ...
