Meet the Realtor's pets! Dogs! Cats! Snakes?

By Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems Real Estate.
I was watching my two dogs, Harry and Dobson, sharing the sofa for a nap yesterday, I thought to myself, "It must be great to be a dog when things are so unsettled because of the pandemic. Lucky for us that at least dogs can't transmit the virus, so unlimited hugs are available.
I asked our agents who have pets at home how their animals help them cope. The answers were delightful.
Beryl Veasey-Oles, is our associate broker in Gardiner, NY. Beryl has two cats and two dogs. The cats are named Twp (Welsh for crazy), and Cwtch (Welsh for cuddle). (She apparently had their vowels removed early on.) Their story is heart warming.
Beryl writes. "One Christmas Eve several years ago, we found two kittens left in a shopping bag on my stepson’s doorstep in his apartment building in Brooklyn. We’re still trying to figure out how they got to my house in Gardiner after we adamantly refused even to cons ...

9 Things you can learn playing Monopoly while you shelter in place.

I'll bet a lot of us have been keeping ourselves and our families entertained by playing a board game or two. Maybe even a little Monopoly. Originally named “The Landlord’s Game,” when it was invented in 1903, Monopoly was intended to show that a system which rewards wealth creation is better than one that rewards only a few monopolists. Here are nine things we can all learn from this classic board game.
1. Be careful with debt.
How many of us try to gobble up every property we land on trying to build a property portfolio. But don't make yourself cash poor, or a couple bad rolls or a trip into jail could lead to being the first person at the table to end up watching Beverly Hillbillies reruns instead of owning Park Place.
2. Always put aside a little cash for the un-anticipated.
You can't always count on rounding GO to make up for adding that extra house on Marvin Gardens. Pay yourself first in case Chance or a Community Chest card knocks your plans off track. T ...

A rabbit and a Rottweiler walked into a blog...

The above video has nothing to do with this blog, but what the heck. We love seeing a rabbit playing with a Rotweiler.
After you watch, if you want to read this blog, it's about the economic slow-down and how home buyers should prepare for when the economy gets back to normal. Enjoy!
The rapid spread of the Corona virus has been compared to prior pandemics and outbreaks not seen in many years. It also has consumers remembering the economic slowdown of 2008 that was caused by a housing crash. This economic slowdown, however, is very different from 2008.
One thing the experts are saying is that while we’ll see a swift decline in economic activity in the second quarter, we’ll begin a sharp rebound in the second half of this year. According to John Burns Consulting:
“Historical analysis showed us that pandemics are usually V-shaped (sharp recessions that recover quickly enough to provide little damage to home prices), and some very cutting-edge search engine analys ...

Our dog's tips for quarantine.

By Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems
Quarantine brings all of us closer, no closer than to our pets. In honor of National Puppy Day, these are some tips Harry and Dobson here at Doggie Epicenter wish to share with us, to help us get through quarantine.
Dobson surviving the quarantine.
Get plenty of rest.
Sleep anywhere. On or under the bed, in a sunny spot on the front lawn, on the sofa, in front of a door, on freshly folded clothes, on your back, in the middle of the floor, especially in the room with the oriental rug. Be sure to snore, chase squirrels in your dreams, and bark.
Stay active.
Chase the cat. Chase your own tail. Sprawl on a sweater. Chase a car. Roll on something really smelly you’ve discovered in the yard. Get scared by something—anything, and bark.
Bathe regularly.
Lick your crotch. Now lick a human. Bark.
Communicate with friends and family.
Start barking at 6 a.m., for no reason at something outside. Howl at bi ...

100 little ideas you may see in use at tonight's Democratic Party debate.

By Vanessa Saunders, MBA, MIMC , Broker Owner, Global Property Systems

Morgan Housel, a partner at Collaborative Fund and a former columnist at The Motley Fool and The Wall Street Journal has compiled a list of "100 Little Ideas" that help to explain how the world works; In reading them over, I found a lot of them apply to the upcoming election in general, and tonight's Democratic Party debate in particular. For example, we might experience the candidates practicing Courtesy Bias: "Giving opinions that are likely to offend people the least, rather than what they actually believe."
Another tactic we may see is called Poisoning the Well: Presenting irrelevant adverse information about someone in a way that makes everything else that person says seem untrustworthy. “Before you hear my opponent’s healthcare plan, let me remind you that he got a DUI in college.”
Or how about the unfortunately named Buridan’s Ass: A thirsty donkey is placed exactly midway bet ...
