If you purchased your home after August 1, 2015, you may qualify for a significant bit of tax relief from the state's STAR tax relief program. But don't wait to file. The deadline is Friday, July 1. You will pay the full school tax, but will get a check from Albany instead of an exemption when the next round of taxes are due.

Homeowners who bought their homes before May 1, 2014 will see no change in their status and do not need to re-file. But if homeowners purchased a primary residence between May 1, 2014 and August, 1, 2015, you must re-register for the revised program if they enrolled in the old version after the 2015 STAR application deadline. New homeowners who apply after Friday will still get a rebate check, but it will come after September.
